How to Write an Argumentative Essay Conclusion
How to Write an Argumentative Essay Conclusion The conclusion for an argumentative essay is your last chance to make an impression on your reader â" thatâs why itâs quite important. Make it weak, and your readers will forget all the good stuff in the body paragraphs and only remember the weak ending. You canât afford to fail your conclusion, and yet itâs so easy to fail it. One of the reasons why students often write low-level conclusions is because there is a certain amount of wrong ideas about the role and purpose of the conclusion chapter that circulate in student circles. One of the most dangerous ones is that you simply have to restate what you have already stated in the introduction and body paragraphs, and you will be done. It couldnât be further from the truth. While the introduction paves the way for your findings and the body paragraphs describe your train of thought, the conclusion serves as the climax. Here, you build on what you have already said, emphasize your point, and map areas for future research. From a certain point of view, the conclusion chapter might seem to be the most important part of your paper. Such thinking wouldnât be correct, however. All the chapters in your paper are equally important and serve the same purpose. So, how does one approach writing the conclusion? First of all, by having a clear understanding of what the conclusion chapter is designed to achieve. The goals and functions of the conclusion chapter A conclusion performs multiple functions: Creates the last impression of your paper in your readers Wraps up what you have already stated Proves that you have accomplished the set of tasks you have set in the beginning Gives readers a closure on the topic Explains how exactly you went about supporting your thesis statement Encourages scientific discussion on related topics Maps areas for future research At that note that the conclusion chapter should not introduce any new information. You should reiterate what was said in the introduction in light of the information provided in the body paragraphs. The conclusion should have a reverted structure as compared with the introduction: while the introduction goes from general to specific, the conclusion follows the opposite order. How to write the conclusion chapter? Generally speaking, you have the freedom of choosing how to approach your conclusion. It should fulfill its functions, but how you go about it is not that important. There are some strategies that you could use to simplify the process: Explain the significance of your research. There is a copywriting technique where writers ask and try to answer the dreaded question: so what? So what that you have performed this research? Who should care and why do you think it makes any contribution into the body of knowledge? If you manage to give answers to these questions in a few sentences, you have a perfect conclusion ready for use. Revisit the introduction. Try using the same structures or approaches to organizing information as you did in the introduction. It will add consistency and close the full cycle of your paper. As it has already been said, the concepts described in the introduction should be revisited in view of the research you have done, not just reiterated. Unite the points raised in body paragraphs. Readers sometimes need more explaining than you would expect. Even if you provided extensive explanation for every point, it will not hurt you to restate the connection in the conclusion. In fact, introducing the connection between the points in the conclusion chapter is one of the best practices. In doing so, make sure you are not making any unexpected turns, as it will qualify as new information, which, as you know, should not be present in the conclusion. Include another attention hook or a thought or discussion provoking element. It will cheer your readers up and leave them wondering if thereâs something else to be said about the subject matter. Propose how your research could be continued. There are multiple adjacent fields to yours where your findings could be used (provided you did a good job of researching). Propose other themes that could be explored in the future. Make a hint at a more general issue. Hinting at matters that encompass your research is a good way to support its significance as a part of a major scientific endeavor. Mistakes to avoid when working on an argumentative essay conclusion Donât restate the obvious. The narrative of your paper should be clear enough to make your readers understand intuitively where the main part ends and the conclusion begins. Thatâs why you shouldnât be using phrases such as âto concludeâ or âin conclusionâ. They sound artificial even in formal writing. Instead, make sure your readers understand the transition between chapters. Making doubtful statements and leaving your readers without a closure. You can hint at a more significant research possibility, but leaving readers with doubts and questions is a bad practice. So in provoking further discussion be careful â" donât go overboard. Changing the style as compared with your entire paper. The conclusion chapter is hardy the right place to change your approach and start using a different style. Your entire paper should aim for consistency in all respects, including style. Argumentative paper writing has quite a few conventions to follow, and not following them might get you in trouble. Including elements that should be in the main part. You have had your chance to present evidence â" now is the time to analyze them. Besides, any evidence provided in the conclusion will qualify as new information, which you shouldnât provide at the end of your paper. Writing conclusion for argumentative essay might seem to be a rather complicated thing, but in truth you will develop this skill with time. It will come naturally to you. If you havenât yet had enough practice, however, these recommendations should help you write a decent conclusion that will be worthy of your paper.

Analysis of The Lost Children of Wilder by Nina Bernstein...
Analysis of The Lost Children of Wilder by Nina Bernstein ââ¬Å"The Lost Children of Wilderâ⬠is a book about how the foster care system failed to give children of color the facilities that would help them lead a somewhat normal and protected life. The story of Shirley Wilder is a sad one once you find out what kind of life she had to live when she was a young girl. Having no mother and rejected by her father she has become a troubled girl. Shirley Wilder was rejected from foster care because she was black. The system failed to place children of color into these homes because they werenââ¬â¢t white, Catholic, or Jewish. I cannot even believe that this went on years ago. Just because you are of a different race meant that you could notâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Just because of her race she was not able to receive the things she needed. According to the law though, she was qualified for treatment but of course there are always loop holes to get around certain terms and conditions of the law. I think a big problem came from the foster-care workers. ââ¬Å"Some foster-care workers said that matching skin shade was a legitimate way of easing a childââ¬â¢s adjustment to a new environmentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Bernstein 113, 2001). In some situations I do believe that it would be hard for a child to adjust to a certain kind of environment but that does not mean that the only thing that should be matched up is skin color. If a child needs a home and their skin color happens to be different from the adoptive parents, so what. They are still going to receive the care they need regardless. I do not know about everyone else but if it was between getting foster care parents who are a different race than me or not getting foster care parents at all I would choose getting them. This book so far is very disturbing to me but hopefully everything turns out okay for Shirley. From the first part of the book we learn that race really does matter. Hopefully in this day we do not have these problems. I think that just because you are a different race or religion does not mean that you should be denied the proper care and supervision. A well known ethical theorist, Terry L. These five theoretical approaches is used to guide public administers into making ethical decisions that affect the individuals they represent. Operant Conditioning free essay sample
Classical conditioning forms associations between stimuli and involves respondent behavior, or the automatic responses to a stimulus. In operant conditioning, organisms associate their own actions with consequences. Action followed by reinforcers increase and those followed by punishers decrease. It uses operant behavior, or behavior that operates on the environment to produce rewarding or punishing stimuli. Operant conditioning involves operant behavior that actively operates on the environment to produce stimuli. Skinners work elaborated a simple fact that Edward Thorndike called the law of effect: rewarded behavior is likely to recur. In his experiments involving the now famous ââ¬ËSkinner boxââ¬â¢, Skinner used shaping, a procedure in which rewards guide an animals behavior toward a desired behavior. By rewarding responses that are ever closer to the final desired behavior, and ignoring all other responses, researchers can gradually shape complex behaviors. A reinforcer is any event that increases the frequency of a preceding response. We will write a custom essay sample on Operant Conditioning or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Reinforcers can be: positive, presenting a pleasant stimulus after a response; negative, reducing or removing an unpleasant stimulus; primary, innately satisfying; or secondary, learned; and immediate or delayed. When the desired response is reinforced every time it occurs, continuous reinforcement is involved. More common are partial reinforcement schedules. Fixed-ratio schedules reinforce behavior after a set number of responses; variable-ratio schedules provide reinforcers after an unpredictable number of responses. Fixed-interval schedules feature an equal pause after each reinforcer, and variable-interval schedules reinforce the first response after varying time intervals. Like reinforcement, punishment is most effective when strong, immediate, and consistent. However, punishment is not simply the opposite of reinforcement, due to the fact that it can have several undesirable side effects, such as increased aggression and fear of the punisher. Even when punishment suppresses unwanted behavior, it often does not guide one toward more desirable behavior. The cognitive perspective has led to an important qualification concerning the power of rewards. The over justification effectà indicates that people may come to see rewards, rather than interest, as the motivation for performing a task. By undermining intrinsic interest, rewards can carry hidden costs. As with classical conditioning, an animals natural predispositions constrain its capacity for operant conditioning. Skinner has been criticized for repeatedly insisting that external influences, not internal thoughts and feelings, shape behavior and for urging the use of operant principles to control peoples behavior. Critics argue that he dehumanized people by neglecting their personal freedom and by seeking to control their actions. Operant principles have been applied in a variety of settings. For example, in schools, computer-assisted instruction embodies the operant ideal of individualized shaping and immediate reinforcement. In businesses, positive reinforcement for jobs well done has boosted employee productivity. In the home, peoples use of energy has been decreased by altering the consequences and providing feedback. Operant Conditioning free essay sample Study Guide Operant conditioning is a form of learning in which a person changes his behavior because of the results of his behavior. Skinner Box Example of Operant Conditioning Operant conditioning is a form of learning, which states that a person changes his behavior because of the results of his behavior. The result of acts can be reinforcement, punishment and extinction. Positive reinforcement (Reinforcement) occurs when there is a reward for a form of behavior. Negative reinforcement (Escape) occurs when an aversive stimulus is removed. Positive punishment occurs when a stimulus is added, which results in the behavior occurring less often. Negative punishment occurs when a stimulus is taken away, which results in the behavior occurring less often. Operant Conditioning ? Operant conditioning is a form of learning. According to this theory, a person changes his behavior because of the results of his behavior. extinction ? the action of making or becoming obsolete or discontinued. We will write a custom essay sample on Operant Conditioning or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Operant conditioning Operant conditioning is a form of learning. According to this theory, a person changes his behavior because of the results of his behavior. The result can be: Reinforcement: a positive or rewarding event which causes the behavior to occur more often. Punishment: a negative or punishing event which causes the behavior to occur less often. Extinction: no event follows; the behavior has no consequences. When a behavior has no consequences, it will occur less frequently. Four Contexts of Operant Conditioning Within operant conditioning, the terms positive and negative are not used in their common or popular sense; positive means that something is added, and negative means something is taken away. Positive reinforcement (Reinforcement) occurs when there is a reward for a form of behavior. This will increase the frequency at which the behavior occurs. In the Skinner Box experiment, the reward is in the form of food when the rat presses a lever. Negative reinforcement (Escape) occurs when an aversive stimulus is removed. This will increase the frequency at which the behavior occurs. In the Skinner Box experiment, there was a loud noise, which was removed when the rat pressed the lever. Positive punishment occurs when a stimulus is added, which results in the behavior occurring less often. Example stimuli may be loud noise, electric shock (rat), or a spanking (child). Negative punishment occurs when a stimulus is taken away, which results in the behavior occurring less often. An example might be a childs toy taken away after the child does an undesired behavior. Summary: 2. Operant Conditioning It is the basic process by which an individuals behavior is shaped by reinforcement or by punishment. A good example is the study by Pedalino Gamboa (1974). To help reduce the frequency of employee tardiness, the researchers implemented a game-like system for all employees that arrived on time. When an employee arrived on time, they were allowed to draw a card. Over the course of a 5-day workweek, the employee would have a full hand for poker. At the end of the week, the best hand won $20. This simple method reduced employee tardiness significantly and demonstrated the effectiveness of operant conditioning on humans. How to Return a Value in JavaScript
How to Return a Value in JavaScript The best way to pass information back to code that called a function in JavaScript is to write the function so the values that are used by the function are passed to it as parameters and the function returns whatever value it needs to without using or updating any global variables. By limiting the way in which information is passed to and from functions, it is easier to reuse the same function from multiple places in the code. JavaScript Return Statement JavaScript provides for passing one value back to the code that called it after everything in the function that needs to run has finished running. JavaScript passes a value from a function back to the code that called it by using the return statement. The value to be returned is specified in the return. That value can be aà constant value, a variable, or a calculation where the result of the calculation is returned. For example: return 3;return xyz;return true;return x / y 27;ââ¬â¹You can include multiple return statements into your function each of which returns a different value. In addition to returning the specified value the return statement also acts as an instruction to exit from the function at that point. Any code that follows the return statement will not be run.function num(x, y) {if (x ! y) {return false;}if (x 5) {return 5;}return x;} The above function shows how you control which return statement is run by using if statements. The value that is returned from a call to a function is the value of that function call. For example, with that function, you can set a variable to the value that is returned using the following code (which would set result to 5). var result num(3,3); The difference between functions and other variables is that the function has to be run in order to determine its value. When you need to access that value in multiple places in your code, it is more efficient to run the function once and assign the value returned to a variable. That variable is used in the rest of the calculations.

Human Services 322 Ideology and Policy Evolution (Rev.C2) - Assignment Example People learn from the society on what to believe and what to say and even how to act. When the society holds the belief that the disabled in society do not need to be accorded any justice or treated fairly because they are not the same as the rest of the people, then everybody else in society will follow suit in the oppression. The societal beliefs are also what makes the rest of the society consider the people living with various forms of disabilities as deserving to suffer whether from humiliation, being treated with hostility or being condemned and especially to those suffering from mental disabilities and do not have the power to fight for their rights (Lightman, 2003). The other cause of oppression to the disabled in society is brought about by a misunderstanding. This misunderstanding is spread through propaganda by the media which depicts the disables as being lazy and hence slow in doing their work. This is clearly a misunderstanding and a misconception because the disabled are slowed down by their significant impairment. A crippled man using clutches for example cannot be expected to work at a faster rate as a normal and abled individual. Some of these people with disabilities also suffer constant pain and hence have to rest every now and then. These are the signs that are misconstrued and regarded as being laziness and slowness while they are indeed trying out their best. The other disabled on the streets seeking assistance are another reason for being regarded as lazy but they are simply seeking help but this does not mean they are lazy (Tomlinson & Trew, 2005). The other cause of oppression is simply dislike for the disabled people because they are different from the rest of the people. The dislike is in such excess as to cause people to make the disabled suffer. The dislike is usually brought about by the fact that the disabled get the welfare assistance, are exempted from

Reserve Bank in India had decided to provide licenses to a few numbers of foreign or new banks in India (RBI, 2010). These entry barriers prevent the entry of any foreign bank in India. Essay --
When people fall asleep, their minds are taken on a journey beyond their control. They sleep through the night and dream for a small fraction of the time, yet dreams feel as if they last for hours, because of the combination of overlapping events, abnormal situations, and extraordinary details. Some people find meaningful interpretations of dreams, while others reject the idea that dreams are relevant to reality. Even though the true purpose of a dream is arguable, people can still benefit from them. Journalism allows a people to extract their dreams from their subconscious state of mind. The concept of a dream journal is to keep record of dreams as they occur. It allows a person to easily retrieve dreams in the past rather than attempting to do so from memory. It is fascinating how imaginative people are during their dreams, yet they struggle to be creative in their writing. Dream journals train the incorporation of creativity and detail in writing and consist of various stories tha t can be either confusing or insightful. Because dreams have numerous features, it is necessary to write down every detail. If one is experiencing trouble using details in personal writing, then dream journals will work in his or her favor, especially if used daily. A personââ¬â¢s writing skills improve due to forming a habit of recalling and recording details. During my sophomore year of high school, my friend Jacob and I had a conversation about lucid dreaming. He described to me that lucid dreaming was the ability to control oneself in a dream. He further explained that I could train myself to experience lucid dreams by keeping track of my dreams in a journal. This conversation sparked my curiosity and I immediately began experimenting. The next morning... ...xtraordinary mental processes such as dreamsâ⬠(p. 525). A direct relationship exists between creativity and dream recall. The more creativity a person develops, the easier recalling dreams will be. The more dream recall a person does, the easier being creative becomes. Dreams give us access to a world where any scenario is possible. Most dreams may not make sense, but they are really vivid. Imaginations do not disappear when wake up, therefore creativity exists in everyone. Keeping a dream journal is a way to implicate creativity into a personââ¬â¢s everyday life, specifically in his or her writing. After analyzing my personal experience along with Kimberlyââ¬â¢s and professional studies, it is evident that dream journaling has a positive influence in creative writing. This proven relationship can be taken advantage of by those interested in improving their writing skills.

He left behind his car with an unfired shot gun and drove to a gas station, where he killed a female passenger and forced a man to enter in the boot at gun point.Bryant drove to Seascape hotel and on his way, he fired passing cars severally. On arrival at the Seascape hotel he handcuffed a male hostage inside the guest house, and he burnt the stolen BMW. The special operations group and the police were informed and arrived at the scene to capture him. (Greener 1996).à The siege between Bryant, and the police together with the special operations group surrounded the hotel. The police and the SOP tried very much to get Bryant or rather to make him surrender, to no success.à Many negotiations intervened the situation and tried to convince Bryant through telephones in vain.à Bryant remained inside the hotel, where he kept firing randomly in various directions.à It was discovered that within the course of the siege, Bryant made many firing approximately two hundred and fifty, and in each case he used a different firearm. He set the hotel to fire, burning the arms and he came out of the hotel with burn wounds so when the police arrested him, they had to send him to the h ospital first, to ensure treatment of the burn wounds.à After treatment, he was taken to Risdon Prison and he was detained to await trial.à He made many suicide attempts during this period. The Tasmania police force arrived at the scene of crime, where by some dealt with police forensic services, other crime scene examiners were at the scene which were different from the five scene examiners.à The ballistics had an expert and two trainees.à All this law enforcement team as well as the eye witnessed aimed at getting helpful information concerning the crime, receiving the services of the disaster in all the six separate crime scene for the dead bodies, they needed identification, through forensic services more crime scene examiners were received from New South Wales to help in investigation.à All scenes as well as the remains at the scene were photographed.ResponseMany individuals teamed up and in responded to the crimes. After further investigation on the cause of the offence, it was discovered that Bryant had intellectual difficulties but this did not stop judge from considering him accountable for his actions.à The deteriorate as the building continued to collapse and burn.à The helicopters of various departments were used to communicate to people the message and orders to evacuate.à This helped many of the officials to leave the building before it collapsed fully and those who evacuated were safe. The fire department officials and the police department officials used radio to communicate, and as the building continued to collapse and burn, the communication became incompatible such that the commander could not get information.à After the collapse of the first tower of the radio repeater system in the world trade centre could no longer function, and this hindered the communication of the evacuation orders between the fire department officers and the fire fighters who were inside the towers (Barrett and Collins 2006).The emergency telephone number which was being used to convey message of evacuation was interfered with by the commotion, and although the dispatchers received information from people who called 9-1-1, the message could not be passed along effectively.A search and rescue operation was launched immediately after the attack, but the efforts to rescue, recover and identify the victims of the attack took long period to be completed (Fox News Network 2002).ResponseThe New York fire officers, emergency medical technicians and police department teamed up to rescue the Feminism Of The 1960 S 1980 - 1507 Words
A.Abstract Feminism in the 1960ââ¬â¢s-1980ââ¬â¢s is a very different concept than Feminism in the 21st century. Back in the 60ââ¬â¢s, feminism meant to fight for equal rights. Now, modern feminism means women-dominance. While the dictionary definition of feminism is ââ¬Å"a range of political movements, ideologies and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for womenâ⬠, many modern feminists take this to the point of fighting for the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠for women to dominate men. Many modern feminists support female superiority, rudeness, and demonizing men. B. First Wave of Feminism In the early 19th century, women were expected to have at least seven children. Higher level education was very unlikely. Women could not own property. American women were restricted in about every aspect of life. Their one goal was to marry well and start a family. Wages for women, if they did worked, were very, very low. It was not until the Married Womanââ¬â¢s Property Act, (1860) which legalized property ownership, joint custody and wage retention for women. A Farewell to Arms - 1229 Words
Sadhana Changoer Mrs. B. Struik English 10-01-2013 How Hemingway uses style and language to reflect the ideas and themes in A Farewell to Arms. There are plenty of novels about World War I, most of them are about the cruel life in the trenches, the physical stress and the awful numbers of deaths during the battle. As a reader you think that you have seen it all, but then this book comes along. A Farewell to Arms is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway, which presents the love story between Lieutenant Fredrick Henry and Catherine Barkle during the cruel events of World War I. There are many things that differentiate this novel from others. The point that attracted my attention the most was the writing style. When the reader startsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Another writing technique that Hemingway often uses is dialogue. Many of the dialogues have short questions and answers, and arenââ¬â¢t always very interesting to read. Something that Henry does in his dialogues is make the way in which the characters speak, more interesting than what they actually say. Hemingway is also showing a bit of himself in this part of the n ovel. Ernest Hemingway was a author, journalist and he has won a Nobel prize for his literary work. He is one of the most important and meaningful writers who has ever lived. Hemingwayââ¬â¢s style is very soft about the war. He has experienced the war from the front lines and he gave his book a very romantic story line. The descriptions of the battles were written very beautiful and do not show the truth of the hard life in trenches and the thousands of men who have died. He makes the story more beautiful than it really is. Hemingway was a very simple man and so was his writing. His writing style is known for his simplicity, easy sentence structure and he does not use any difficult words in his work. You can find this back in this novel. The writing style used in A Farewell to Arms helps the reader to understand the ideas of the main character and the emotions and moods the main character is experiencing. The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson - 937 Words
In Shirley Jacksonââ¬â¢s short story, ââ¬Å"The Lottery,â⬠a small village is preparing for an annual drawing, a tradition carried out for generations. During this ritual, the head of each household draws a blank piece of paper out of a black box. One piece of paper is marked with a single black dot and if chosen, the outcome is having the winnerââ¬â¢s entire household draw out of the box. Whoever chooses the black dot out of the household is stoned to death by the entire village. In this instance, a husband wins to which his wife protests, and then she is the ultimate victim who is sacrificed. This story includes many literary elements like foreshadowing, warning of a future event, symbolism, symbols used in the story to represent ideas, and irony, when the contrary to what is expected to happen, occurs. Jackson uses foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony to prove the theme that it is foolish and barbaric to blindly follow tradition. The foreshadowing Jackson uses in this st ory helps to show how tradition should not be followed without knowing the origin. For example, small children make a ââ¬Å"great pile of stonesâ⬠(Jackson 457). Although gathering rocks seems harmless, the reason behind the childrenââ¬â¢s play is vile. The children are included in the stoning of an innocent person because the tradition has to be instilled early on so that they do not see the cruelty in the act. Gilgamesh Hero or not Free Essays
A hero is someone of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her bravery. Giglamesh is the king of Uruk who may or may not have existed. Many people question if Giglamesh was a hero or not; what do you think? Stories told that the king slept with all the women and took away children from their families. We will write a custom essay sample on Gilgamesh: Hero or not? or any similar topic only for you Order Now Does that sound like a hero to you? Enkidu who comes to life in the wilderness, he is covered with shaggy, wild like the wilderness, hair. He eats and drinks with the animals. Enkidu is spotted by trapper realeasing animals in Mesopotamia; the trapper is dumbfounded by Enkiduââ¬â¢s presents and goes to Uruk to find Giglamesh. The harlot seduces Enkidu and the animals reject him and he is lured into civilization. Enkidu hears how Giglamesh is a terrible ruler and he wants to challenge him; Giglamesh throws Enkidu who loses his anger and recognizes Giglamesh as a true king and they embraced and became best friends. Giglamesh is not a hero figure! People cannot sleep with every woman in the town and think that the can be considered a ââ¬Å"heroâ⬠. Nowadays if Giglamesh was to sleep with every woman in the town while you had a wife that would be frowned upon in the civilization. Taking peopleââ¬â¢s children is even worse! How would you feel if someone just deliberately came and took your child from your house without your consent? In my eyes that is far from hero material. Giglamesh is a horrific king, exhausting his people with wall building and womanizing. The gods finally take action and make Enkidu create a balance. Also Giglamesh forces all inhabitants to work for him building walls and temples. Enkidu and Giglamesh upset the world order by destroying sacred monsters of nature; Giglamesh killed humbaba and Enkidu killed the Bull of Heaven. Therefore, one of them must die Enkidu takes full responsibility of dying for both of them. The king is finally left without a friend and only responsible for living well and building walls. The story of Giglamesh survived thousands of years because it was written on clay with a set of symbols we call cuneiform. Clay is the cheapest, and most durable writing material. Also another reason of ancient Mesopotamian texts is very difficult to learn. The story of Giglamesh was written on twelve tablets the story told us about Giglameshââ¬â¢s life and his strive for immortality are told on eleven of the twelve tablets. The twelfth tablet is about the Nether world in which Giglamesh rules after his death. I think his society viewed him as a hero because they lived in fear. Fear of being his slave for the rest of their lives. Fear of having their children taken away from them. Our society definitely has ââ¬Å"heroââ¬â¢sâ⬠such as Giglamesh but we call them rapist and kidnappers. Uruk citizens lived in fear of being overruled by their ruler if they didnââ¬â¢t oblige to the king. After tons of research I have found that Giglamesh may have been a warrior but a hero that is a fictional statement. I think Giglamesh was a cruel and horrific man. In my research Giglamesh was a very greedy person and unfit for a king. In conclusion Giglamesh was considered a hero to Urukââ¬â¢s citizens but that was only because they feared him. Dear G-d by Being As An Ocean free essay sample
Being As An Ocean (BAAO) is a band from Alpine, California who have only been together since 2011 and have made a huge impact in the Post Hardcore/Melodic Hardcore scene. Releasing their first full length album Dear G-d on October 22nd, 2012 they showed the music industry what their capable of. After listening to this album I can say with a 100% certainty that this is one piece of art that is filled to the breaking point with heart. My first impression after listening to the album was that I had to listen to it again. I was falling in love with it, even though I hadnââ¬â¢t had a full grasp on the words yet, the melodies that they preform so well instrumentally will catch your ear in such a way that youââ¬â¢ll be straining to hear what comes next. In this album the band is trying to send out a message to everyone, regardless of who you are. We will write a custom essay sample on Dear G-d by Being As An Ocean or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the very first track they tell us that clearly enough while also expressing the fear that what they have to say might not help at all. ââ¬Å"The words might mean nothing/but itââ¬â¢s a chance Iââ¬â¢m willing to take/cause maybe Iââ¬â¢m wrong and lives can changeâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Track 1: Nothing, Save the Power Theyââ¬â¢re Given). They want us to know that theyââ¬â¢ve been through it; they still are going through it! But that they believe they can help others to get through their hardships with the knowledge they have gained from these experiences. In the following track, ââ¬Å"Dear G-dâ⬠(Track 2), they start to ease in their message of God and His Love. They express how they have learned to forgive people of the wrongs they committed against them, how theyââ¬â¢re trying to be better people as God intended them to be. They tell everyone that theyââ¬â¢re writing to remind everyone that there is always hope and love and living. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦I write these things to remind myself/that amidst this darkness, there still remains/light, Hope, and a perfect plan/â⬠¦.â⬠Even if you are not a believer in God like myself or your religion differs, you can appreciate the raw emotion that pours out of these words, these melodies. It is inspiring regardless of what it is that they found something to lead them, to pull them through everything they needed it too. That found a way to have hope, they are telling us that hope is always there; itââ¬â¢s the light in the dark. Two tracks stood out to me the most and still do after listening to the album various times; ââ¬Å"This Loneliness Wonââ¬â¢t be the Death of Meâ⬠(Tack 4) ââ¬Å"If Theyââ¬â¢re Not Counted, Count Me Outâ⬠(Track 11). These two songs tugged and pulled at my heart strings from start to finish. This Loneliness Wont be the Death of Me is probably my favorite song by the band hands down, right away it pulls you in with its soft melodies that begin and end the song. It sounds so soft, so fragile and loving and then goes so much deeper, introducing a feeling that weve all felt before. I still feel so alone/even when Im surrounded by my friends/.After such tremendous abuse/cause Iââ¬â¢ve worked this ground since my youth/and still, the land has yet to bare any sort of fruit We all know what its like to not feel like your good enough and no matter how much you do, youre not getting anything in return or to feel alone no matter whos around. If Theyre Not Counted, Count Me Out is my second favorite track off of this album for a more personal matter that voices some of my own concerns. They talk about how though he may have been given Gods grace, his loved ones have not and if they arent there with him in the end, that he should just be sent down there with them. He discusses how he has seen good and light in everyone no matter who they are. Iââ¬â¢ve seen hospitality in the homeless/Iââ¬â¢ve seen Light in the darkness/and Iââ¬â¢ ve seen hope in the damned/. He questions how God as the creator of all, could sit by and watch his children suffer? /A Father doesnââ¬â¢t sit idly by while His children are maimed/ I believe that this track really hits home for a lot of people, it is very relatable; a question that Im sure many people have asked before. This album is amazing in not only that it is pleasing to the ears with its melodies but original with its lyrics. Listening to this album multiple times now (each time finding one more reason to fall in love with it all over again) I would recommend it to anyone regardless of age, religion, and even those who dislike the genre itself. The message that BAAO is sending out is one worth listening too. Everyone should know that even in the darkest times there are people who know how you feel, who have the same questions, the same concerns, and have found an answer.

Platoââ¬â¢s Euthyphro Essay Example
Platoââ¬â¢s Euthyphro Essay In this platonic dialogue featuring Socrates and Euthyphro, the two engage in a discussion about the essence of piety and the pious. The scene is the porch of king Archon. Both of them are seeking the attention of the king in cases that are of concern to each of them. It is here that Socrates seeks to learn from Euthyphro the nature of piety because Euthyphro professes great knowledge on the subject. Following Socrates characteristic enquiry, Euthyphro comes up with several definitions, which are discussed in this article together with Socrates responses to them. The first definitionAfter Socrates rejects his very first attempt to discover the essence of the pious by the pointing out that he did not ask for a few examples of piety, Euthyphro gives the first definition that piety is what is dear to the gods and impiety what is not dear to them. Taking an earlier assertion by Euthyphro that gods indeed do have dire quarrels, battles and fights, Socrates begins to enquire into the depth of the definition given.Socrates argues that since gods fight and quarrel, then they must do that because of differences in values, beliefs and most importantly because of differences in opinion about what is just and unjust, what is good and evil, what is honorable and what is not. Similarly one act could be considered good to one god and evil to another. That some act could be agreeable to Zeus but not agreeable to Cronos or Uranus. Euthyphro then suggested that surely all the gods would agree on the propriety of punishing a murderer.à Socrates counters this by arguing that even men dare not dispute that a doer of injustice should go unpunished, rather they deny that such a wrong has been done. The gods would do the same and deny that injustice is done among them while others say it is done. It would follow from the argument that what is pious and holy to some gods could be impious and evil to others. A question arises; how do you know for sure that your presumed pious acts are not agreeable to some gods but hateful to the rest? This cannot be and so the definition is rejected. After then Euthyphro amends his definition and say that Pious and holy is what all gods, love and impious what all gods hate. In the same manner as above Socrates refutes this definition by arguing that the gods love piety because it is holy and not holy because the gods love it. Consequently the definition that pious is what all gods love does not satisfy define piety but is just an attribute. In simple terms, what Socrates is saying is that Pious is loved by Gods because it is a kind to be loved and is not pious because its loved by the gods. It is not possible therefore to say that the gods love pious because of the quality in it that is lovable and then say that pious because its loved. That does not add up.The second definitionEuthyphro gives the second definition of piety as the part of justice that attends to the gods. After some guidance from Socrates, he amends this to â⠬Ëthe act of attending to the gods.ââ¬â¢ Socrates then enquires as to the nature of the attention given. He contends that attention is always designed to benefit that to which the attention is given. Below are some excerpts that give direction to their conversation.Soc. And is not attention always designed for the good or benefit of that to which the attention is given? As in the case of horses, you may observe that when attended to by the horsemans art they are benefited and improved, are they not?Euth. True.Soc. As the dogs are benefited by the huntsmans art, and the oxen by the art of the ox herd, and all other things are tended or attended for their good and not for their hurt?Euth. Certainly, not for their hurt.Soc. But for their good?Euth. Of course.Soc. And does piety or holiness, which has been defined to be the art of attending to the gods, benefit or improve them? Would you say that when you do a holy act you make any of the gods better?Euth. No, no; that was certainly not what I meant.Jowett, B. Euthyphro by Plato (1999).Since no benefits seem to accrue from the attention given to the gods by men, Euthyphro attempts to clarify the kind of attention he means by adding that it is such as servants show their masters-a kind of ministration. Socrates still finds fault with this and asks what work such kind of ministration helps to accomplish. He reckons that all art ministers to a person only with the view of accomplishing a particular purpose. Euthyphro can hardly answer the question that follows. Socrates asks what is accomplished by the gods following our ministration. At this point Socrates argues that Piety cannot be the art of attending to the god since there are no apparent benefits accruing from this attention. The third definitionHaving been unable to defend the second definition Euthyphro quickly comes up with the third definition that states that piety or holiness is learning how to please gods in word and deed by prayers and sacrifices. Thi s third definition still comes under Socrates scrutiny who points out that sacrifice is giving to the gods while praying is asking and thus piety by Euthyphroââ¬â¢s definition is the science of giving and asking. After looking at this definition it follows that we ask what is good (what we think is good for us) from the gods. And we then give what is beneficial to them (What is good to them). However, Euthyphro quickly points out that the gods do not need anything from us. Socrates observes that, if that is this case then our giving and sacrifices are of no benefit to the gods, Euthyphro answers that on the contrary our sacrifices and services are dear to the gods. This takes them back to where they started that piety is what is dear to gods.In conclusion Socrates refutes the three definitions given by Euthyphro. The first one because Pious is loved by the gods because of the quality in it and not pious because it is loved by the gods. It can only be one not both. The second defi nition is not admissible because the attention given to the gods brings no benefits to the gods. This makes no sense. The third definition too is refuted since the sacrificing or giving seems to be without any benefit to the gods and if it does then it takes us back to the beginning.ReferencesJowett, B.(1999). Modern Day Plague Essays - COBOL, Calendars, Hazards, Free Essays
Modern Day Plague Essays - COBOL, Calendars, Hazards, Free Essays Modern Day Plague Modern Day Plague Argument: Mankind has become too dependent on computers, and we as a society are covering up our errors and not facing the facts, to avoid panic. About four years ago, a new pop headline came hot of the press rumoring something about home computers having problems when the year 2000 hit. The year 2000, that's six years away, people thought. Many believed in six years it would be fixed. Thus, the headline got thrown into the archives along with egg yolks being high in cholesterol and the FBI and the CIA being against each other. Well, today the computer problem has resurrected itself. The downside is that, the second round of hype, as some have called it, is being looked upon less seriously than before. What is the problem anyway, what's the big deal? Many have asked this question without a definite answer, weakening any bit of concern. Here it is put simply. All computers contain small processors that contain a current date. This processor comes in millions of different types and has been for close to 30 years. These processors are responsible for simple and complex operations and in some cases, for recording data. All of these functions require dates to perform. Well, the problem hits when one looks at how all processors have been made. All they contain are six numbers, 2 for the day, 2 for the month and 2 for the year. What about when 99 wants to flip to 00? The computer thinks 00 is before 99. Therefore, many go haywire and perhaps crash. The only way to fix it, is by replacing or up dating ALL processors to record four digits for the year. When this problem first resurfaced about eight months back, the few that were paying attention realized the danger. Many suggested the idea of the world collapsing. This drew enough rally to form a congressional committee in May of (19)98, less than two years to the millennium. Y2K, as it is now known, was targeted more toward government and business application rather than home PC's. Why is that? Mainly because there is much more on the line. All businesses, utilities and transportation companies could be seriously affected. This also includes all forms of data storage as well, like the Census Bureau, IRS and Social Security. The unfortunate part about specifying to these main groups, is that the public is left out. Up until now, there have been only a handful of T.V. news reports about Y2K. This is a definite problem for several reasons. Today's culture is tuned to nightly news for all the issues. For many, it's all that they know. The only in depth documents on Y2K can be found in section E5 of news papers or on the internet. Two sources that might require a little time to research. Another problem is that most of the population thinks of computers (processors) as sitting on top of desks accompanied with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Well, if that were the case, it wouldn't be all that hard to fix. The real problem exists when all processors must be updated or replaced manually. According to the Committee of Government Management, Information and Technology, as of August 1998, less than 10% of companies questioned, had begun looking at these embedded processors for testing. Many of these processors are hard or impossible to reach. These account for some 600+ satellites orbiting above, which o perate all ATM's, cell phones, pagers and airline guidance systems. Many believe that the public isn't being revealed the facts intentionally. They feel that the government is keeping it quite to prevent widespread panic. If fear spread that business could collapse worldwide due to Y2K, there might be a preemptive collapse due to a crash of stock markets and banks. It's a lose: lose situation. Even if 20% of investors pulled their money out of the U.S. stock markets, there would still be a complete collapse. This report has been made several times by different market analysists. Another worst-cased scenario would be if everyone wanted to pull cash out of banks. Currently there is only 4% of the actual secured amount is out in currency. This leaves every American with only
